The Story of The Oakenham Cameo:

The historic Oakenham estate was built in 1837 by the Fauntleroy family on 1,030 acres of land in Middlesex County, Virginia. In 1849, the property was divided to establish the Village of Saluda. The original house of Oakenham remains a private residence today.

Around the turn of the 21st century, an object was discovered buried in the ground near the entrance to the main house. The artifact (pictured here) is believed to be a piece from a woman's brooch dating back to the late 1800's. Made of copper, this lovely piece is framed in daffodils with a faint "F" for Fauntleroy engraved in middle plate. The Oakenham Cameo was hand-crafted from this ornate object and reflects an important time in Virginia's history. The original details in this beautiful piece remain intact to be cherished for years to come.
